Architectural Design
General House Requirements
The house design is to be of a single-story structure with a courtyard in the center of the residence of approximately 4,200 square feet in size. The design style may consist of a mixture of Spanish Colonial, Mexican Hacienda, and Mission Revival (see example picture below) style features.
The residence should include a tower that has a church bell (see picture above). The courtyard will include a round water fountain, which should be located towards the rear of the courtyard. The backyard will have a swimming pool.
The house must have four bedrooms, which includes the Master Suite. Each bedroom will have its own dedicated full-size bathroom and walk-in closet. The house design must include the following additional rooms: living room, dining room, family room, storage room, hallway walk-in closet, laundry room, walk-in pantry, office, and gymnasium. The residence will also have an attached three car garage.
The Master Suite should have a double exterior door leading to the backyard patio area. The master bathroom will consist of a double person shower stall and have a double sink vanity with separate framed mirrors.
The kitchen will consist of the following items: six burner gas range stove with a metal hood with copper finish, a double oven gas range, kitchen cabinet built-in wall mounted microwave, farmhouse sink installed next to the exterior wall, a coffee station and alcoholic bar station.
All exterior walls shall be built using 2x6 lumber. Where it makes sense the interior partition walls will be built using 2x4 lumber.
Project Goals
1) Design a residential structure that brings to life a Mexican Hacienda that makes the viewer think they’re looking at a building that had been built a longtime ago.
2) Design and build a structure with the following:
a. User friendly to my wife and I as we age in place
b. As much off-grid environment properties as possible
c. With acoustical properties to reduce noise in certain parts (Office, GYM & Bedroom #2) of the building envelope
